Mark E. McKenna of Mahwah, New Jersey,
was recently appointed vice president of construction for Barrett
Builders, LLC, a full-service developer and builder based in
Fort Lee, New Jersey. Reporting directly to company President
Tom Barrett, McKenna is overseeing industrial development at
Greenville Yards, a 50-acre brownfield redevelopment project
in Jersey City.
McKenna most recently served as project
manager for Wernert Construction Management, LLC, where he
was responsible for large scale retail site development totaling
$30 million. Prior to that, he spent more than a decade involved
in construction and property management for commercial and
residential properties in the New York metropolitan area.
Nearly half of his 28 years of development experience involves
design and engineering work. His most notable accomplishment
while employed by The Port Authority of New York & New
Jersey in the late-1980s was the development of The Teleport
on Staten Island - a 100-acre, $225 million Real Estate Office
Park Development utilizing satellite communications and fiber
optic cable.
In his new position with Barrett Builders,
McKenna is coordinating the construction of several cold storage
facilities in Greenville Yards. His company recently completed
a state-of-the-art, 137,000-square-foot frozen food warehouse
for Preferred Freezer Services, Inc. and will soon break ground
on a 65,000-square-foot warehouse for two subsidiaries of
Preferred. Refrigeration was a new area of expertise for McKenna,
but he eagerly rose to the challenge. "One of the reasons
I accepted this position was the opportunity to tackle new
experiences working with a reputable developer," he noted.
"The breadth of Mark's construction
background is a tremendous asset to us as we seek out diverse
development opportunities throughout the state," remarked
Barrett. "While he can think like a designer, he receives
great satisfaction from working out the practical details
of a project."
McKenna received his bachelor's degree
in civil engineering from Fairleigh Dickinson University in
Teaneck, New Jersey, and also holds a New Jersey real estate
license. He coaches soccer in his town's recreation league
and is active in the Mahwah Schools Foundation.
Based in Fort Lee, New Jersey,
Barrett Builders is a full-service developer and builder with
more than 50 years of experience in residential and commercial

on the Hudson River waterfront in North Bergen, and Greenville
